Hello,
After reading many of the messages last week by people on this site I feel saddened for so many people who were abused through neglect etc. I wish people in the community would of helped you. I was not home schooled but would like to ask some questions if you do not mind about how these situations were allowed to occur & / or might be able to be prevented for other children etc.
I remember feeling concerned for a 10 year old child whose mother was very influenced by philosophies like "un-schooling". The Mother was saying that her son would not learn to read etc , but she had told her son he did not have to learn anything unless he wanted to. So wrong.
Sorry for so many questions.
Were parents registered with any type of government or government accepted authority? If no, is there any way that children could be checked upon so as to prevent unregistered families? If yes, did the registration help give a decent education in any way?
Don't government authorities have responsibility in ensuring all children are receiving proper education?
Are there any legal consequences for parents who do not provide a suitable education when they say they home school?
Could anyone share ideas about how current and future home schooled children that are not actually being taught effectively & cared for can be saved from neglect in the future?
Have lawyers helped anyone with compensation (government or private) for neglect? There is a government funded Victims Compensation Tribunal in Australia.
Best wishes to every one in their recovery.
